“I think of my client and I as a team. Despite the high percentage of marriages ending up in divorce, it’s still a touchy topic, which, without the proper guidance, can generate frustration and isolation. This is a time when people are most vulnerable and at risk of making some serious mistakes. The worst thing you can do while facing marital separation is to stick your head in the sand and hope that it will pass. If you are preparing to go through a divorce the best thing to do is to find legal representation that is a good fit. You have one shot at this and the consequences can last you a lifetime so involve people who have been through this, people who you trust and legal experts to back you up.”

Catherine “Kate” Stalker, Partner

Upon graduation from Saint Mary’s College at Notre Dame in 2000, Kate accepted a job with Morgan Stanley, where she worked until her building, the South Tower of the World Trade Center, was attacked and destroyed on 9/11.

In 2002, Kate and her new husband decided to make Greensboro their home.  After working in marketing and project management for six years, she entered Elon University School of Law.  While at Elon, Kate was active in the Family Law Society.  She also participated in externships in Washington D.C. as well as the State Capitol, where she worked for Senator Donald R. Vaughan.

Since becoming an attorney, Kate has focused her practice primarily on family law, which includes divorce, child custody, child support, property distribution, spousal support, and adoption. In all things, Kate works hard to make difficult situations better for all her clients.  Although Kate is based in Guilford County, her practice takes her around the state, including Alamance, Randolph, Davidson, Mecklenburg and Wake Counties.

Kate was raised by her grandmother and now devotes part of her practice to “Grandparents Rights.”  Through CourtWatch of North Carolina, she developed a self-help program for grandparents who wanted custody of their grandchildren but could not afford to pay a lawyer.  She has also provided many hours of pro bono aid for indigent grandparents in need of representation for their custody cases.

Kate is thrilled to join Rossabi Law Partners, and is following her passion by helping local families maneuver through the maze of divorce and custody laws in our state. Kate constantly strives to obtain the best results for her clients in every case.  But, as a wife and mother herself, she is always very attuned to the emotional pain and trauma (especially to the children) that usually accompanies family law matters.  Because of that, Kate always stays focused on the bigger picture and tries to handle things in the way that will be best for the client (and the client’s children) in the long run.

In addition to being on the advisory board of CourtWatch of North Carolina, Kate is a member of the North Carolina State Bar, Guilford County Bar, Greensboro Bar Association, and the Guilford Chapter of the American Inns of Court.  In her spare time, she chauffeurs her overscheduled children to their activities, runs every 5k she can, and roots for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (but we try not to hold that against her!)
